Revenue land units used in Haryana
For land records, farmland and most private colonies, Haryana uses the revenue units below. The marla is the base unit and everything else is a multiple of it.

So 1 acre is 8 kanal or 160 marla. In consolidated farmland a “killa” is usually a one-acre field, which is why farmers often say “5 killa” when they mean about 5 acres.
A bigha is also used in parts of Haryana, but its size changes from region to region. Always convert bigha figures to acres or square yards in writing before you pay any token money.
Why HSVP (HUDA) plot sizes are different
HSVP names its residential plots by category, such as 10 marla or 1 kanal. These names are labels for a plot class, not exact revenue measurements. The actual size is the one written in the allotment papers.

So when someone offers a “10 marla plot in Sector 3”, they mean the HSVP category, which is roughly 250 square yards, not 302 square yards. Private colonies may use either system, so always ask for the size in feet and square yards.
